What are Number Sentences?

Number sentences representing equations that has numbers and operation symbols like ‘+’, ‘-‘, ‘*’ ‘/’, ‘%’, and also has inequalities symbols like '<', '>'. Equality number sentences has equal sign (=), and the values of both left and right side of the terms are same.
The number sentence is solved by finding the value of the unknown term that makes the two sides of the number sentence have the same value.

Writing Number Sentence from Statements

To write number sentences from statements we need operations like +, -, *, / and also some variables to represent different quantities. Like, if it is given that in a box of 10 fruits there were apples and  oranges. If number of apples are 4 then what is the number of oranges.

To convert these statements in number sentences we have, orange = O and apple = A.

A = 4 is already given and sum of A and O is given as 10. Hence, 4 + O = 10.
