# Perimeter of a Kite

The length of the boundary of a kite is called as the perimeter of a kite. Kite is a four-sided polygon with two diagonals. A kite has two pair of sides where adjacent sides and opposite angles where unequal sides meet are equal. The diagonals of a kite meet at right angles. Also, the diagonals bisect each other.

## How to find perimeter of kite

To find the perimeter of kite, there is a need to know the length of two pairs of lines. If the length of lines are X and Y, then the perimeter can be obtained by the formula 2(X + Y).

The area of a kite is given by the formula $\frac{PQ}{2}$ where P and Q are the lengths of the diagonals. If length of diagonals are given then the length of sides can be obtained using the Pythagoras formula which can easily give the perimeter.

## Perimeter of a Kite Formula

Kite is a geometric figure with pair of two similar sides. Perimeter of any geometric shape is length of its boundary. Perimeter of a kite is defined as the sum of length of all sides of the kite. As adjacent sides of a kite are equal in length, the perimeter is twice the sum of the length of unequal sides.

Perimeter of a kite = 2(a+b), where a and b are the sides of the kite.

## Example

Below are example problems on perimeter of a kite

Example 1:

What will be the perimeter of the kite whose sides are 9cm and 12cm?

Solution:

Given are the sides, a = 9 and b = 12

Perimeter of the kite = 2(a+b)

= 2(9 + 12)

= 42

Example 2:

If a kite has sides with length 8cm and 10cm then find its perimeter.

Solution:

Given: a = 8 and b = 10

Perimeter of the kite = 2(a+b)

= 2(8 + 10)

= 36

Example 3:

Calculate the perimeter of the kite with sides are 7cm and 9cm

Solution:

a = 7 and b = 9

Perimeter of the kite = 2(a+b)

= 2(7 + 9)

= 32

Example 4:

Find the perimeter of the kite whose sides are 7cm and 11cm

Solution:

a = 7 and b = 11

Perimeter of the kite = 2(a+b)

= 2(7 + 11)

= 36

Example 5:

Find the perimeter of the kite whose sides are 7cm and 15cm

Solution:

a = 7 and b = 15

Perimeter of the kite = 2(a+b)

= 2(7 + 15)

= 44
