This is a representative list of topics covered in our Grade 4 Math
program - however all programs will be customized for the individual
student.
Math topics for grade 4:
Number and Operations
- Read, write, count numbers from 0 to 999,999 and identify, compare, order, represent estimates or place value using models.
- Positive Fractional Numbers (like $\frac{a}{2}$, where 0 < a $\leq$denominator).
- Set or Linear Models (number of parts in the whole are equal to, and a multiple or factor of the denominator).
- Understand decimals to the hundredths 0.01 and be able to add and subtract decimals.
- Mathematical Operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication(2 digits by 2 digits) and division(1 digit divisor)).
- Multiplication facts are committed to memory up to the 10x tables.
Geometry and Measurement
- Identify, sort, classify a variety of 2 or 3 dimensional geometric shapes and figures.
- Classify angles relative to 90 degree as more than, less than, or equal to.
- Understanding of similar and congruent figures by applying scales on maps, or applying characteristics of similar figures.
- Apply translations, reflections and rotations with geometric figures and coordinates.
- Complete understanding of units (inches, feet, yards, miles, millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers etc.) and of years, decades, centuries, millenniums.
- Measures, uses units of measures appropriately and appropriate estimations of which units of measure apply.
- Area of rectangles and perimeter of polygons or irregular shapes on grids using a variety of models or formulas. Understanding relationships using location and position
Functions and Algebra- Identify, create, analyze and extend patterns and describe the rule.
- Determine the values in equations when there are missing terms in the four operations.
- Demonstrate equivalence in equations with the 4 operations.
- Demonstrates conceptual understanding of equality and algebraic expressions involving any one of the four operations.
Data, Statistics, and Probability
- Analyze the data to formulate or justify conclusions, to make predictions, or to solve problems.
- Conduct surveys and experiments and represent the collected data using tables, line plots, bar graphs, and pictographs.
- Mean, Median and Mode.
- Counting Techniques to solve Problems (Combinations or simple permutations and variety of strategies).
- Probability: Predicts and determines event in which the sample space may or may not contain equally likely outcomes.

Solved Examples
Question 1: Find the area of square with side of 4 ft.
Solution:
Side of square = 4
Area of square = Side * Side
=> Area of square = 4 * 4
= 16
Hence, area of square is 16 square ft.
Question 2: Find the value of x, 3x + 2 = 5.
Solution:
Given, 3x + 2 = 5
Subtract 2 from both sides
=> 3x + 2 - 2 = 5 - 2
=> 3x = 3
Divide each side by 3
=> $\frac{3x}{3} = \frac{3}{3}$
=> x = 1
Question 3: Compare the fraction by using signs, > (greater than), < (less than), or = (equal to).
$\frac{3}{4}$ _____
$\frac{1}{2}$ Solution:
Given, $\frac{3}{4}$ ___ $\frac{1}{2}$
Step 1:
Make the denominator same
$\frac{1}{2}$ = $\frac{1 * 2}{2 * 2}$
= $\frac{2}{4}$
Step 2:
Compare the numerators
3 > 1
=> $\frac{3}{4}$ > $\frac{1}{2}$
Question 4: Write in standered form
Six thousand twenty-five
Solution:
Six thousand twenty-five = 6,025
Question 5: Multiply 34 * 12
